The official server

Stellar Odyssey has a Discord server where players talk, ask for help and report bugs, and where a bot can send you a message the moment something finishes in your game.

You reach it from the Discord button in the game menu, or at discord.gg/gbnkhTwJx9. Nothing in the game requires it: everything below is optional and adds to what you already do in the client.

Linking your account

Click your username in the top right corner, go to Settings and open the Discord tab. Press Login with Discord and approve the window that opens. From that point the bot knows which player you are, and the same button unlinks you again whenever you want.

The link is per realm. If you play both the web version and the Steam one, each account is linked separately, and Discord tells them apart on its own.

Remember

The bot never writes to your account. Linking lets it read your data to answer you and to send you notices, and nothing else.

Direct notifications

Once linked, the Discord tab shows a list of notifications you can turn on. They all start off, so nothing is sent until you pick what you want to hear about:

Notification Sent when
Engine cooldown Your ship engine finishes cooling down
Actions depleted Your offline actions window runs out
Whisper Another player sends you a private message
Zone lost Your squadron loses a battlefield zone it was holding
Dungeon finished A dungeon run you were part of ends
Laboratory queue finished The last item in your lab queue is done
Expedition finished A Voyager expedition comes back
Pet food depleted One of your pets runs out of food
Galaxy Boss spawning A Galaxy Boss is about to appear

There is also a Discord ping switch. With it off the bot sends the message quietly; with it on it pings you, which is the difference between reading it later and getting a phone notification.

Commands in the official server

These three run in the official server and are open to everyone:

Command What it does
/pvp Simulates 200 fights against another player and shows the win rate
/duel Same simulation, between two other players
/squadronfight Simulates a full fight between two squadrons

All three are the same maths the game uses to resolve a real fight, run 200 times, so the result is a percentage and not a prediction. They are a way to size up an opponent before committing to a real attack.

Everything about your own account and your squadron lives in a separate bot, which also works in the official server. That one is covered in the squadron bot.

A private channel for your squadron

A squadron that does not want to run a Discord server of its own can ask for a private channel inside the official one. The leader runs /channel-request.

The squadron has to be active enough to justify it:

  • At least 8 members.
  • Every member has to have played in the last 3 days. If someone has not, the answer names who, so you know who to chase.

If it passes, the bot creates a channel only that squadron can see, plus a role that grants access. From then on any member runs /join to get the role and walk in.

Access is checked against the game, not against who was there first. A member who leaves the squadron, or is kicked, loses the role and the channel on the next sweep, without anyone having to remember to do it.

Remember

A squadron whose members all stop playing for 7 days is warned in its own channel, and archived if nothing changes. Archiving deletes the role and moves the channel out of sight, but the history stays. Running /channel-request again brings the same channel back.

Bug reports

The server has a channel for bug reports, and the bot picks them up from there. It is the fastest route: a report written in Discord reaches the same place as one sent from the game.

TL;DR:

  • Everything on Discord is optional, and the bots never write to your game account.
  • Link from Settings, Discord tab, reached from your username in the top right. Each realm links separately.
  • Notifications all start off. Turn on the ones you want, and use Discord ping if you want to actually be interrupted.
  • /pvp, /duel and /squadronfight simulate 200 fights and give you a win rate before you commit to a real one.
  • A squadron with 8 members, all active in the last 3 days, can ask for its own private channel with /channel-request.
